In the first few days of January, I decided to have a look back on the past footballing year. Last year was one to be eradicated for fans of English football for various reasons such as World Cup disappointments, Bridgegate, the Rooney saga and the 2018 World Cup succe s oh yeah, we were robbed of that to. However, countries such as Spain, Holland, Germany, Uruguay and Ghana can look back on the year, defined by a World Cup and be happy at what they have achieved. There have been heroes, such as Asamoah Gyan, Wesley Sneijder and David Villa and villains such as Luis Suarez, the FIFA exco committee and of course, Sepp Blatter. We have also seen the introductions of an exciting generation in Germany from the side that won 3rd Adrian Peterson Jersey at the World Cup to Jurgen Klopps Boru sia Dortmund. Being a Bolton fan, this has been a great year in one that at the start looked destined for failure under Megson. Being 7th in the league is one of the many shocks last year. Now I take a look back at the past year in England.EnglandIn a year dominated by present and future World Cups, neither came out with any favourable outcomes for the English public. Going in with high hopes into this years 2010 World Cup in South Africa, being third favourites by many pundits and bookmakers. Optimism spread throughout the country after an all but faultle s qualifying campaign and an in form Wayne Rooney. I, like many others, unle s you were watching it on ITV HD, thought the chance might finally arise when Gerrard scored within Clay Young Jersey the first few minutes against the USA. This turned out to be a false dream when Rob Greens howler allowed Reuben Foster Jersey the US to level and we never recovered, despite a victory against Slovenia in the final game to put us through to the next round. However Capellos emphasis in the team was on experience and reputation and not on youth and form was what I think was a major reason for us going out in the round of 16. In my view, the likes of David James, Jamie Carragher and Emile Heskey should not have been playing as much as they did and the likes of John Terry and Ashley Cole looked out of form. I am looking forward to the next few years to see how much Capello has learnt from this and we can hopefully have a succe sful 2014 World Cup. We are getting a good generation of players such as Gary Cahill and Andy Carroll can hopefully lead to this. As if one World Cup failure was enough for last year. The unsucce sful bid for the 2018 World Cup bid came as a shock to many of us because on paper, our bid looked the strongest in all criteria from stadia to infrastructure. I think a respectable defeat would have been looked at as unlucky but being bottom with two votes shows that unfortunately, the FIFA voting system isnt the most suitable one for picking the biggest show on Earth. On the club front, Chelsea were victorious in Andre Ellington Jersey the 2009-2010 season with a resounding 8-0 win over Wigan securing the title. Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas and Wayne Rooney were the best players of the season. This season though is proving to be a different story. Chelsea were cruising at the start of the season, but a mid season blip could prove fatal in their title bid. They along with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race for the title. Players such as Andy Carroll, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Nani, Samir Nasri and especially Gareth Bale have shone this season. The other main stories this season has revolved around Bridgegate and the Rooney saga. Whatever happens this year, it has to be a better year on the international front for England and the Premier League is becoming tougher and more unpredictable. 2011 Isaiah McKenzie Jersey should hopefully prove to be a great year for English football.
