A highlight of Wrath of the Lich King is the massive Wintergrasp Battleground, which pits players against each other several times a day in the eponymous area in the heart of Northrend. Depending on who controls the fort, players must take on the role of attacker or defender. Attackers must use tanks, catapults and bombs to destroy both walls, including the main entrance on the side of the fortress, within a given time to achieve victory. The defenders held off the tanks with their lives and the fort's turrets.
With this classic feature, however, the question arises whether the developers will bring Wintergrasp into the game as it did back then, or adjust it to today's conditions. In an official blog post, the developers explained their plans for the outdoor battlefield in detail. You can find the highlights here. In short, not much has changed, but the battlefield needs to be instantiated.

Wintergrasp is instantiated
The flow of players in Wintergrasp at the start of the battle will be huge. However, modern features like sharding or layering don't work in this battleground, otherwise it would do too much damage. This is why Wintergrasp is instantiated.
Every three hours, players outside Wintergrasp or Dalaran will be notified that the Battle of Wintergrasp is about to begin. Players outside Wintergrasp will receive an invitation to queue, while players in Dalaran will have a short opportunity to chat with NPCs within their faction territory to queue. Significantly lowers the maximum and minimum number of players required for both factions to start a battle (previously required 40 per side).
The tenacity buff is still there
Toughness is a stacking buff that *significantly* increases the strength of a large number of players.
Wintergrasp Essence buff remains unchanged
This buff gives you access to other content. For example, after the battle, you can face off against elemental enemies in the Wintergrasp area, or acquire shards of the Stone Guardian.
This is a special currency that players can use to buy powerful items such as mounts, item enchantments, and recipes

Wintergrasp will continue to exist as a PvP outdoor area in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, functioning the same way it does during non-combat.
Players with Wintergrasp Essence can touch enemy Wailing Spirit elements in the area, and faction NPCs are still available. Of course, the PvP flag is always enabled as well. There are Classic WotLK Gold for Sale.
